That the only reason the President is elected to the office is so that he can be a scapegoat for the nation's woes and miseries?

He wasn't elected, IIRC.

Yeah, but look at it this way, if Gore got the most votes, and Bush gets to be president, everyone wins SOMETHING! :D

...Sort of.

Well, actually the democrats only had a MORAL victory.

The electoral college seems to have screwed this last election, though id be fine if it ended up in my favor instead of Bush's :) .

I think the current election was a great example of how stupid the electoral system is.

Everyone who comes out bashing the forgets the most important reason the college still exsists.

If the US presidency was gained soley on popular vote, a presidental candidate would campaign almost exclusivly in populous states like: California, New York, Texas, Michigan and Ohio.

Less populous areas, and their views would almost be completly fogotten. West Virginia, with it's 1.8 million people, is as a whole state smaller than many metropolis. Yet, it's 5 electoral votes, going Reoublican for the first time in years, won Bush the presidental election.

(The same goes for Tennesse, Gore's home state, which he lost, and any number of small states. Flordia recieved the most attention due to it's recount, and thus these other small points are forgotten.)

The populous is what matters. Those other lesser populated states need to get their act together.
