You say it's not democracy that a group of people decide to exercise their constitutional rights, and band together to effect the voting in a state? Sounds pretty democratic to me.

I highly doubt you would feel the same way if these people were gay, instead of Christian.

Don't forget, their end goal is to succede from the Union. How would you feel is suddenly, your state succeded from the Union and became Faggyland? You wouldn't be very happy, I imagine.

That was the entire idea behind the Union when it was first formed. People of like mind would migrate to states that contained other like-minded people. A federal government would bind them together, and interact with the outside world. The states were basically small countries that did their own thing, almost like the EU.

No, not almost like the EU.

The EU was not formed 100 years ago when the majority of the area in question was unsettled. The EU was formed by seperate countries with their own soveirgnty out of an interest that was largely economic. The American union,in counterance, was formed over 100 years ago when the majority of the land encompassing it now was barren and unsettled. The American union was formed by, basically, two complete unions for reasons that were very much related to their survival as a policical entity.

The American Consititution was created long ago when the federal government was a new concept, and had to play to each state's wishes in fear of a second cival war. It is not that way today. But what is being proposed is something that would very much have made sense 100 years ago.

Seems a little crazy to me. I mean, it'll obviously never work. I seriously doubt they'll even get the 12,000 people they want to influence South Carolina. But the whole concept of trying to get a state to leave and form its' own nation just so they can make a "Christian State" where they can stay far away from abortionists, homosexuals, and people who worship some other god? Don't they see that as a little silly?

And I don't think people should completely link the Right Wing with Christianity. Christian fringe associations seem to sit comfortably with Right-wing fringe associations, who both often share common goals, but by and large the Right Wing does not look like a political opinion built out of the religious tenents of christianity.

And while we're on that, maybe those christians should be reminded of the seperation of church from state. Because of this people should be given the choice to act freely without their behaviour being dictated by religions, especially if they're not even affiliated with them, and if someone IS of a religion they can simply choose to follow its' rules and not make use of that which is allowed.

Example: If there are branches of christianity which think homosexuality should not be allowed, such as this one apparently, it doesn't seem their right to say that others besides themselves should be denied the right to be homosexual, because perhaps some people feel it IS all right, and thus is not other peoples' buisness.

Dolash, when someone becomes a Christian (this is probably true for other religions as well) the religion becomes a part of you. You govern your life by its standards.

There can be no separation of church and state for a Christian, because the person is a Christian. You don't just say, "Oh gee, I think I'll drop all my moral values while I vote on this political issue, as my opinion may hurt the feelings of someone else." It doesn't work like that. There is no separation of Church and State for a Christian, because the Church is part of the person.

Think of it this way, it would be like asking a black man to discard his skin pigment when he steps into the voting booth.

I'm a Christian, and I'm perfectly capable of rendering unto Caesar the things that are Ceasar's and unto God the things that are God's.

And Kas, the difference between a person being black and a person being Christian is that one is a state of mind, and the other is a skin color.

Being black doesn't automatically make you suddenly irrational, where as being Christian does.

I don't think people should completely link the Right Wing with Christianity

Being Christian makes you irrational.
