I'm just saying that a snow covered Chewbacca, right at the scene with the probe droid, would make a good mascot.
But for natives, I think that Tauntauns, Wampas, and that lichen that Tauntauns feed on is all there is.

Tauntauns seem more like a yak to me...some kind of pack animal-turned riding animal.
