That would have made it look like he didn't trust his friend to not hit him in the face.

He did have a face mask. That's how his chin got burned. A firecracker got wedged in the space between his lower helmet and chin for a second or two, spinning around, and burned him before it got free.

Kraken just spent three hours analyzing the video to come to that conclusion.
