To be Jedi . . . or not to be Jedi? That is the question.

I would like to add "Force-abilities" to my characters list of skills, but I'm not even sure that's possible. I read the Jedi section of the manual, but I'm still a little fuzzy. What should I do? He doesn't want to be a Jedi, but I want him to be at least "Force-sensitive." Can I give him a "Force-ability" or "Force-power," but not make him a Jedi? It is not uncommon for a member of his people to have a darkside ability and a lightside ability (such as Force Lightning and Force Heal). Someone please help me!

You can be force sensitive. Without specific, RPed out training and earning a level of at least knight there is no way you'd be able to use either force lightning or force heal. For force lightning you could need master rank (person to ask for that would be Vance Jas.

Thank you. That's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. I'll leave this thread open, though.

Vance is in the process of creating a list of Force powers, which includes who can and can't use them, determined by rank.

That'll be nice. There really should be a middle ground; you know a "I can use the force, but not very well (I can force push/pull people), and no, I don't want to be a Jedi" kind of thing. Just a suggestion.

I'm fairly certian the word "guide" should be inclusive. Guide, for guidelines.

Yes; and the guide will also heavily suggest that unless your character has been trained/is currently training with an Order, all you'll get is very passive abilities that tend to happen when there is personal danger to your specific being.

Way to much structure/organization for a free-form RP, imho. What about (as a random example) a Jedi Knight who specifically works on healing abilities? They should be able to perform Master-level abilities at the expense of (say), Knight-level attacks.

*shrug*

Then again, I think our entire Jedi structure needs some serious reworking, so ignore me.

Or they could act in the same fashion that fleeting has taken, by which I mean common sense...

One would assume so, wouldn't they, Orion?

Demo: Typically it's not worth the effort of establishing so many variations on the Force powers, as most members who join as Sith, or Jedi, tend to disappear within a matter of weeks, to months; so if we have something basic for a rough outline that new arrivals can use, then that will allow those of us, who try to guide the use of the Force on this board (ala Force Council), into having more of an understanding for what is generally acceptable and what is not (for that brief, usually overpowered stint of a newbies Force using characters lifespan).
