Does this mean, you will not be creating a forum for the AA?
:(
I would like to , if it is possible, but just have it as a themed place to RP, rather than force newer members to RP there (which didn't really work anyhows)
It would also be the height of impracticality to recreate whatever the fuck crazy ass user groups system we have right now on the new board, especially because vBulliten is better at user groups than the new framework.
Titus and I spoke about the user groups thing, he actually anticipated Ahnk would have separation anxiety. The plan is to in the longer term implement some sort of user group functionality, perhaps something that allows any user to set up a user group or users with the proper permissions can manage it themselves or whatever.
Not at all. I read what he said, and I think he makes a good point, I'm all for simplifying things, and lets face it the usergroups 'function' was pretty unwieldy to say the least.
I think, the focus on having group owners being responsible for their own faction boards / forums , rather than depending on Staffers (and in most technical aspects, Titus) to sort things out is a good thing (IMO)
That being said, I certainly don't wish to see every faction 'up shit creek' so to speak, so as long as we / he can develop / set-up a board equivalent for each faction in some way , shape or form, then great.
Besides, I get the impression he hasn't quite figured out what the best thing to do here is anyway, so, if anyone has any suggestions I'd say now was the time to speak up.
I'm not going to force any changes, it's easy enough to migrate and maintain that forum.
This about sums it up. I don't know the best course of action. I know we want to maintain the group element and the functionality of being able to have private discussion with the group, but vBulletin's forums+usergroups solution doesn't directly translate very well.
For the time being I'm planning on adding a nav item that will link out to each individual group on therebelfaction.com, and making some changes here to link back, thereby trying to maintain somewhat of a continuing experience.
In the future I want to retain the same level of functionality that we have now, but with the ability to add more features.
