Welcome to The Rebel Faction; use at your own risk.
Historically speaking the idea of a Dark Jedi is tantamount to a fallen Jedi. Which is to say, a character trained in the traditions of the Jedi who, for whatever reason, has broken from the Code and Order as a result, cast out. The idea being that if you're a Dark Jedi, the Jedi part still rings true.
There are a myriad variety of alternate disciplines, however; and I encourage you to continue your research. One need not conform to any formal method of practicing use of the Force. For instance; it is believed that before the formal solidification of the Jedi Order some tens of thousands of years prior the Galaxy was rife with a number of disciplines. And this continues to this day - one need not look far to see examples of this.
Do not let yourself be caged in by what you perceive to be relevant.

Thanks very much for the direction and further input, guys. Once again, greatly appreciated.
I suppose I'm just awash and overwhelmed by the sheer jargon and prospect of getting used to a new game like this one, more specifically to a new way of doing things. On games I've played before, everything was uniformly laid out and directed for you. This seems far more free form than that. I'm liking it.

Thanks!
We like to think that you are limited only by your imagination.
Of course, if your imagination sucks we will let you know that too... :grin

Welcome to TRF. I like you already. I think most things have been covered by other people, so I don't have much more to say. But I'll ramble on for a few more lines anyway to make it look like I contributed something good to this thread. Rambling is a favourite activity of mine, as those who know me will attest (frequently they wander out of the room and I continue talking). No seriously, they do.
In all seriousness, if you have any more questions, I don't mind answering them, assuming you aren't looking for a one sentence answer. I can be contacted via PM, MSN or AIM (though I'm not on AIM that often).

Despite what vaderIIsonofskywalker says (stop scaring the newbies!), we are actually the best Star Wars RP site that I've found. I will caution you that our writing standards are high, but you look like you can handle the heat.
That said, welcome! TRF is a great site to write whatever it is you hope to write. Personally, I write as a Colonel-General in the New Order (this board's version of the Empire), as a Sith apprentice (Darth Skygge), as a cyborg bounty hunter (Cendar, but he's kinda inactive at the moment), and as an agent for the Rebel Alliance (Jaeriel). Actually, if you want Sith training, you'd fit well under Skygge (she's not a knight yet, but she's close and is actually somewhat active). Her philosophy is similar to what you wanted to write anyway. If you want, PM me or catch me on AIM. I'm more than willing to help.

Interesting proposal, Wes. I'm currently in the midst of reading through Mira's biography, but so far it looks pretty close to my idea. I would gladly accept the offer of training under Darth Skygge. Who knows, maybe eventual Sith Hood wouldn't be so bad after all?

Welcome to TRF. My character is a Sith Apprentice also, so I'm sure we'll run into each other 'professionally' at some point. If there's anything that I can help you with, do get in touch.

I guess being a Jedi just isn't fashionable these days...
