Uglies: The Bounty Hunters Guild
You are viewing an old version of this page.
The Guild supplies its pilots with starfighters, constructed by the Guild, built from parts of countless other craft. They are called Uglies.
Uglies have been used by numerous other pirate fleets but rarely as effectively or as many as the Guild. They are starfighters that are built from the bones of other ships which have been damaged, decommissioned or purchased as bulk orders that were never completed by their original engineers. Cheap to build and maintain the Ugly starfighter is wrought with problems that keep them from use by more well funded groups.
The Bounty Hunters Guild employs four standard types of Ugly starfighters; Interceptor, Combat Fighter, Escort, and Bomber. Each group suffers from its own batch of malfunctions, some of which are common to all three.
Ugly starfighters are incredibly cheap to build and maintain, so much so that the loss of combat effectiveness is generally compensated for by the number of units that can be fielded. Their various flaws stem almost entirely from the fact that each Ugly is a hodgepodge of systems and technologies. This is also their greatest strength.
Described below are examples of each of the three major Ugly groups used by the Bounty Hunters Guild.
Interceptor
The Interceptor is a heavier, long range starfighter equipped with heavy weapons designed to engage targets at maximum distance. They feature powerful engines, both sublight and hyperdrive and moderate shields.
Generally equipped with two proton and two concussion missile racks, quad or triple fire linked cannons and a supplementary ion gun, they use these weapons to engage targets outside of closed combat range before moving off to rearm or reposition for further attacks.
Compare to: E-Wing and TiE Defender.
Bombers
The Bomber is a heavy, bulky and, slow craft which carries large ordinance payloads. They have powerful engines to drive their mass forward, though not swiftly, and incredibly powerful shields designed to soak up the damage the ship is too ungainly to avoid.
These are equipped with two or three bomb racks, a single turret based defensive gun, one heavy laser weapon and one ion weapon. The latter two are controlled by the pilot while a gunner is responsible for the turret and bombs.
Compare to: TiE Bomber and Y-Wing starfighters.
Escort
Escort Uglies are four-man craft assigned one per squadron as a tactical command. These are bulky, heavily armed craft with swift engines. They carry powerful sensor packages which they use to supplement the combat effectiveness of the squadron they are assigned to.
The pilot controls a rack of concussion or proton missiles, a laser weapon and ion weapons which are generally fire linked to one another. A gunnery officer controls two turret based cannons and a rear firing torpedo. Sensor operations are preformed by a team of two, one of whom is responsible for coordinating the actions of the squadron. Powerful shields protect these vessels, should they engage the enemy, but in practice the Escort Ugly usually remains out of the combat zone directly.

Combat Fighter
The combat fighter is the most widely varied of the Uglies used by the Guild. Because they have been used so heavily throughout the galaxy, combat fighter material was extremely easy to get a hold of. To this end they generally do not feature hyperdrive units, though this not always the case; a squadron leader is usually assigned a hyper-capable unit.
Quad or triple fire linked cannons provide their main line of offense. These are powerful weapons with a high rate of fire and virtually no need to cool. Two concussion missile racks are generally mounted alongside the primary cannons. Though they do not carry a wide array of weapons, the Combat Fighter boasts powerful shields, swift engines, and considerable body armor.
