Description:

The standard class combat frigate is designed to fill a niche in Imperial forces when it comes primarily to combat training ships. These ships are designed to be robust, easily produced, and "expendable". They are not meant for frontline service, but rather are designed to work in the back waters, getting new crews trained up to novice status, help patrol the less areas of risk in the Empire, and if needed, serve as escorts as well.

The frigate does not exceed performance in any one area. It's armament is varied widely to familiarize gunners with the various different types of weaponry. These weapons include turbolasers, laser cannons, ion cannons, and warhead launchers that can used magnetic pulse, standard torpedoes or missles, heavy rockets, and a variety of other offensive weaponry. None of the weapons are of the heavy standard, to where a generous helping of each type can be fitted onto the ship without a heavy drain on the power reactor.

The hangar bay carries a squadron of starfighters, with a normal intended capacity of being a wingpair each of the latest TIE Defender and TIE Scimitar models, with the other two flightgroups being of TIE-2 fighters. A single nighthawk stealth shuttle, a lambda, and two sentinel shuttles are embarked, as is a stormtrooper transport so offensive boarding operations can be praticed. Speaking of infantry, the ship can carry a standard company, often two squads of naval troopers to serve as ship security, and an expanded platoon of stormtroopers for boarding operations or shipboard defence.

The ship carries a normal array of communications and sensor gear, including the most basic of stealth detection devices, such as a doppler pinging scope, which sends a feedback signal to the ship. The signal would let the ship's crew know the presence of a non-advanced cloaking device or stealth ship, but without the tracking capabilites of more advanced starships. The ship's standard procedure in this case is to run or call in more advanced starships.

The ship embarks nearly eight hundred personnel, a large amount for it's size, mainly because there are two crew shifts, each crew rotating twelve hours on end. A standard training cruise would last for two weeks or up to a month, depending on the capability of the graduating crew. But enough consumables are present to enable a three month operating session. This was intended mainly for the convoy escort role.

The ship has a basic propulsion system that relies on four standard ion drive engines, and a very basic hyperdrive motivator. In addition, protection is very basic, for as previously mentioned, the ship is intended to train crews and tackle easy assignments, rather than take a frontline role in major conflicts.
