Description:
The Druid class Frigate is designed as a multi-role warship to fill a number of roles within the Empire that had previously been handled by scores of smaller and outdated ships. The frigate is first and foremost the size of a medium cruiser, and is given the classical wedge shape most commonely used for the star destroyers. The warship is designed for space, orbital, and planetery combat, and has been designed so that it can engage in firefighters relativley close to a star, or landing on a planet it's self. The ship embarks a normal amount of crewers for it's size, and it's armament varies widely. For ship to ship or ship to planet combat the frigate is armed with twenty turbolaser batteries and ten ion batteries, capable of quickly laying waste to a good area of a planet or killing anything smaller than an light cruiser. For anti-starfighter combat, the frigate is given twenty of the excellent Firestorm quad laser cannons, and for general purpose duty the ship has a number of missile launchers as well.
The ship is designed to enter the atmosphere of a planet, and it's underside as a result is equipped with repulsorlifts to keep the ship in the air when in the atmosphere. And in addition, four large landing struts, two in the bow and two in the stern, allows the ship it's self to land on the surface of a planet, which is how the ship would debark the five thousand infantry it carries onto a world. For protection the ship has double hull armour, titanium reinforced durasteel armour, seperated by layers of expanding and de-expanding coils that help regulate the temperature between extremely cold or extremley warm temperatures outside of the hull. The shield system has a triple-layered option to help the frigate absorb the punch of high velocity solid shot weaponry such as hypervelocity cannons, gauss cannons, or the Coalition's particle based weaponry. Finally, the ship's propulsion system is sub-par for a vessel it's size, as the extra power normally used for propulsion is instead devoted to weaponry and repulsor systems. In the case of the repulsor-systems being activated, the ship's speed is reduced to 10 MGLT.
The ship's primary roles are convoy escort, squadron leader for fleet formations, planetery bombardement, planetery assault, planetery supression, fleet escort and support vessel. In addition to it's main features the frigate also boasts an advanced long range communications relay system, and an advanced sensor suite including equipment for detecting cloaked and stealth ships. The advanced sensor suite onboard the Druid includes an advanced doppler pulse array mounted on the ship that actes to help detect and keep track of stealth or cloaked ships. It does this by sending out a series of wave signals that bounces off of any solid mass, and the wave signal would return to the ship, where computers would anaylize the depature and return times of the signal(s) to determine where on the sensor board the cloaked or stealth ship is located. In the case of ships using cloaks or other abilites to effectivley make them invisible to the sensors or naked eye, the doppler radar would return a bounce signal, and then several more signals can be sent out by the secondary array, each one returning a bounce signal that goes directly into the navicomputer to anaylze target course, speed, and approximate dimensions. There are two arrays, a main array which does a 360 degree scan around the ship, and a secondary array that can do a 90 degree scan in any direction from the ship. Once the main array has detected a contact, the second array would take over in order to maintain contact. Also, the beam can be either widened to provide a broad sweep but with limited range before dissipation, or a narrow beam with a limited field sweep but with excellent bounceback range. This system does have it's drawbacks though, the energy required to run the radars is high, and as a result the repulsorlifts cannot be activated while the doppler radar is active.
