Seren Tech - Cloak Drive
You are viewing an old version of this page.
Hope I'm doing this correctly......
Description:
The Serendivus Cloaking drive is used by the Seren's to hide any manner of properity, from fighters to stations
There are several different kind of 'drives' each one corrisponds to a different type of spec, there are more but these are the most used
There's the Standard Seren Cloak Drive MK 1
There's the Special Forces Cloak Drive MK 2
There's the Station Cloak Drive MK 3
Standard Seren Cloak Drive MK1
The Standard Cloak MK 1 is fitted on all vessels, from the nimble fighters(medium and heavy), to the slow and steady destroyers. Although the Seren's don't have any destroyers, that's besides the point
The Standard Cloak drive allows a single ship to cloak for roughly three to six hours, depending on size
if it's a fighter it can cloak for up to six hours without needing to decloak. If it's a capital ship, and depending on size and type, it can be cloaked from anywhere to an hour or two hours
While this makes fighers basically invisible to all forms of scanners and deep space sensors, that doesn't exactly help the larger, more obtrusive, capital ships
The Capital ship's cloak drives have to constantly scan the ship for any changes (like a hanger bay door opening, a bent communications rod) if such anomalie's are detected, the on board AI must realign the cloaking drives field
The Cloaking Drive's are special technology that the Seren's have equiped with 'unique' AI's. This gives the drive the ability to auto self destruct in the event an enemy gets on board
The capital ship scale cloaking drives have another flaw - reduced speed and no sensors, along with a continious relignment every fifteen to thirty minutes, or when ever the ship fires and release's fighters
Fighters however remain unaffected by these changes (due to there size)
How it works is like this:
The Drive warps space around the craft and allows to disappear, sort of like Star Trek, but more elaborate. For the Medium and Heavy fighters though that isn't possible, instead they use a sort of Stealth Paradigm to acheive there cloak
Special Forces Cloak Drive MK 2
The Special Forces Cloak MK 2 is used on special fighters and ships, along with Commando Forces units. This is the only type of cloak that is capible of being used by a person
Within this there are two different types. Those worn by personel and those used on ship
Those worn by personel are not reliable, but do have a cloaking time of roughly thirty minutes before the suit must cool down - a flaw that it has because if someone has an infra-red goggle on then once the person decloak's they'll light up like a christmas tree
The Ship based SFC MK2 is more unique and powerful allows the fighter to remain cloaked while firing, making them hard to hit. The draw back is the on board AI constantly realigning the cloak field to compensate for the new data being generated when the ships fire
Both drives have a cloaking time of only 30-45 minutes, this is due to there ability of allowing the user to fire while cloaked.
Station Cloak Drive MK 3
The Station cloak is the most advanced form of cloaking the Seren's have developed and used.
Currently this is used on there colony's and stations, as well as the mobile shipyards that they have developed (Currently only six of those MS's exist)
The Station Cloak is so powerful, that it requires a seperate reactor in order to keep the station itself active, or Colony, which ever it is on
The Cloak allows the station to remain undetected by sensors. While this cloak is active no one may enter or leave the station by ship. Further more, communication is not possible with the station, even if a friendly is in the area the station comm. crew will not risk communicating with the ship
For stations they run along the same principle of cloaking as the standard drives. Basically they warp space around them
Any ships moored to the station also receive the cloaking benefit
Additional Information
The Cloaking Field is very fragile, if a stray laser blast or torpedo impacts the field, there is a 50% chance that the field WILL collasps (requiring a brief thirty second realignment)
