Description:
The Sparrow Reten Heavy Fighter is a replacement to the expensive Crystal Joint Multipurpose Fighter. When the Crystal was first thought up it was around a time when the Seren's had plenty of resources, but constant fighting against pirate factions have resulted in the Seren's finding newer and better fighter designs.
Thus the Sparrow Reten was born. The Sparrow is the first Seren fighter to not have an open cockpit, everything is completely encased with armor that is roughly double that of the Crystal, speed is increased just slightly and weapons where improved to make it a better opponent.
The Sparrow is not equiped with a cloaking drive, this was to make room for the more advanced and newly developed Particle Beam Cannon that proved to be very effective in the fight against pirates. However, what the Sparrow lacks in stealth it made up for in firepower, adding in additional weapon's mount allows the Sparrow to equip an extra cold fusion PBC.
The Sparrow's 'skin' is a transperent reflective coating that bounce's direct fire energy weapons back out into space, the skin also absorbs ION energy and transform's it into energy that the ship's power plant can use - basically the Sparrow can't run out of power unless it gets into a fight where the enemy doesn't use any ION weapons.(Read Energy Vampire System below)
What the Sparrow does lack is missile and torpedo counter measures, it must relie on it's speed and menueverability to break away from locked missiles.
In order for the pilot and co-pilot to see what's outside the sparrow a new type of combat system was developed that allows the pilot to basically see around his craft, the craft is peppered with tiny sensors and camera's that are so small that it requires a special type of instrument to service them in the event they get damaged, but the sensors and camera's are located under the skin of the craft and thus are shielded from most forms of damage.
Along with this the Sparrow also has a set of tiny camera's that are constantly rotating around the ship; allowing for a complete uninterrupted three sixty view. The camera's run off solar energy from the sun, and thus if no sun is in the area (like deep space) then these camera's can't used.
Advanced Guidance Computer: The AGC allows the Sparrow to be guided through some of the most treacherious area's of space, including dense asteroid belts. This make's getting to certain place's in the universe a lot safer, but at the risk of sensor resolution, basically the AGC taps into the sensor suite on board and directs it to detect 'only' solid objects. This renders the AGV useless in combat.
Priority Targeting System: Much like that found on capital ships, this system alerts the Sparrow to any new threats that may come into the threater of war but are outside the Sparrow's sight range.
Energy Vampire System: Before this system was only equiped on Serendivus Trading and Transport vessels to protect against pirate Ion attacks; of course this lead to a rise in destroyed transports instead of captured and seized cargo.
The system was updated to work on fighters and larger capital ships; the EV is small round disk placed on the bow of the Sparrow. This disk, upon contact with ION energy, draw's it into a series of special coil's that transform's the energy into power that the Sparrow can use. When to much Ion energy is collected it'll bleed the energy out into space, but this is another form of weapon as any fighter tailing the Sparrow has a small chance of lossing energy to one of it's systems.
There is a draw back to this system though, large Ion shots like those from an Ion Cannon located on the planet will cause the EV to overload and a catatrphobic explosion will rip the Sparrow to peices. Because of this the EV is only engaged when in combat against fighters, and disengaged when in combat near a planet with a known Ion Cannon. Capital based Ion cannons don't result in this type of damage, but they do have a chance of actually disabling the fighter since capital based ion cannons are far more powerful than fighter based.

Description:
The Sparrow Crecent Assault Frigate is the home base for the Sparrow Reten Heavy Fighters and the only launch platform for them. The Crecent is a stealthy, dangerious, frigate that if left completely alone can wreak havoc on shipping lane's and small fleets.
The Crescent is a replacement to the much deployed - Stragono Assault Frigate that the Serendivus had much love to. The Stragono was the first platform to have the Straff Beam Cannons and they proved very effective at 'sniping' enemy assault ships from the safety of asteroid belts or at long distances.
After several more tests the weapon was further upgraded and placed on the Crescent which now use's it to terrorize pirate shipping and, if the oppertunity ever arrises, imperial as well.
The frigate, like most Seren capital ships, isn't equiped with combat shields but instead just your typical enviromental. It's hull is the same as that of the Reten, infact, it's very design and exterior shape is exactly the same as that of the heavy fighter.
However like all Seren ships the interior is different from ship to ship, espically where the bridge located. It all depends on the construction chief in charge of that particuler ship.
The Crescent has two different hull 'colors' when not in battle it use's it's normal operational color, but when it enter's combat the ship suddenly lit's up with a dull green field. This field has a paralyzing effect on pilots as most wouldn't know what it does.
What this field is is that it energize's the hull and protects it from projectile weapons; while the main 'skin' reflect's lasers back into space. Both however have no effect on torpedo's.
Straff Beam Cannon: A specialized beam cannon used to shatter the shields of enemy ships and cause serious damage to the enemy's hull. The weapon works by directing a beam of sub-atomic particles that can penetrate solid matter and shielding to detonate on command causing massive internal damage. The turret is AI controled and can cut a swaff through space toward it's intended target.
A drawback to using this weapon is the massive energy required, if the ship is standing still then it can use this weapon for as many time's as it desires, but if it's movng then it can't use the weapon as most of the ships power is being directed toward engines and other weapons. The other drawback is that this weapon is only fitted on the front of the ship, giving it a thirty degree arc of fire. This basically means the Sparrow HAS to be facing it's target to cause any damage. It requires a fifteen second recharge before firing again.
Just to keep in mind, the original Straff was a pure energy based weapon that condensed energy into a minature beam much like what laser cannons do, only far more powerful and longer (capible of keeping it's shape over long distances)
Point Singularity Self Destruct System: A suicidal system that, once activated, there is no point of return. The system cause's the ships reactor to coincide with the ships main engines and also with the ships Staff Beam Cannon collection array. The System, once set, only allows for five seconds of evacuation, which is why its useless to hit the evacuation pods. And for that reason none exist on this ship.
When the system reach's critical mass the ship literally rips apart with sub-atomic and plasma bursting outward, this has the possibility of causing massive damage to near by capital ships, and will destroy all fighter and lightly shielded vessels.
This explosion can and will cause severe enviromental damage to near by planets cause in the explosion; because of this commanders and captains prefer NOT to use this system when near planets. When the explosion occurs all hands are lost on board the ship. However the range of the explosion is quite small, any ships outside the frigate's medium engagement range will recieve damage but not heavy and ships outside the frigate's normal long range will receive no damage.
For this reason everytime the ship enters combat it's crew are automatically listed as MIA(Missing in action).
The only ships capible of withstanding this explosion is Lavality personel flagship and other Crescent frigate ships. For this reason if the ship is to self destruct all near by Seren ships usually jump out of the system, or fly away at an angle that make's it appear as if they are still attacking but in reality they are fleeing.
Not ALL Crescent ships are equiped with the Point Singurality SDS. Mostly due to the massive resource cost of building such a system, for that reason only two Crescents where ever made with this system attached; all others have a lower graded version that acts more like a typical self destruct mechanism.
Deployment Operative: Crescent Assault Frigates are deployed in small groups due to there effectiveness at operating under cover of cloak. Their excellent at harassing small fleets of ships, or for going after enemy supply/trading lanes.
