Rebel R&D: X90 All Purpose Blaster Rifle
X90 All Purpose Blaster Rifle
The X90 is one of the most brilliant things to come out of the Rebellion since the mass production of the X-Wing. An answer to the Imperial Heavy Repeater, Trooper Rifle, and Sniper Rifle all in one, the X90 is a true multi-purpose weapon. The gun's size is a little less than double the classic E-11 Trooper Rifle, but makes up for its large size with its multi-purpose functions. The blaster, like almost all others, has two settings. Kill and stun. It also has three different modes for the gun to be set. This includes Fully Automatic, Burst Mode, and Sniper Mode. Because of this, the blaster packs normally hidden from view are quite visible, and also much larger.
Fully Automatic
In this mode, the X90 is able to fire off five rounds per second. The weapon can be continuously fired, just as the Imperial Heavy Repeater would be. This mode has two drawbacks. 1) It is extremely hard to aim, and 2) it drains the power packs very quickly. This mode is best used for close combat. Dallorian, a strong chrome-like alloy is used in the production of the X90 since it can absorb and dissipate large amounts of heat. This allows the X90 to utilize a larger power pack to generate rapid-fire blasts of energy. In this mode the X90 can fire approximately 100 times before the power pack needs to be recharged or replaced.
Burst Mode
In this mode, the X90 is easier to control. However, it can only fire three rounds per two seconds, and locks at the end of three rounds for approximately two more seconds before it can be fired again. This conserves energy from the power packs and keeps the recoil at a reasonable level. This mode is best used for short to medium range.
Sniper Mode
In this mode, the X90 only fires one round before it is locked down for two seconds, but recoil is almost non-existent. Also, the X90 has a much longer range in this mode. The X90 easily matches the range of other sniper rifles on the market. Typically soldiers would utilize the scope with built in zoom function. While not in Sniper Mode, the scope hangs to the side of the rifle, but in this mode one can push the scope up and securely into the top, giving the user the ability to see through it. It is possible to do this in the other modes, but it would be of not advantage to the user.
