Research and Development Ship Uniform GCV 420-A

Welcome to the Galactic Coalition vessel; the RDS Uniform. The Uniform is classified as an evolving design platform directed towards scientific exploration and developmental production. Strictly speaking the vessel is a functional Mother ship able to faction almost totally autonomously.

Built with an exposed superstructure the Uniform was built to accommodate the addition and adaptation of embarked facilities. Modular construction means that the mass and actual dimensions of the vessel can be easily altered.

The RDS Uniform is not a ship of war and as such mounts no fixed weaponry though the vessel does feature an impressive defensive network of shields, both ray and particle, along with an impressive array of support craft.

The RDS Uniform, at launch, did not boast any technologies beyond galactic standard. However; given the nature of the Uniform Project it is expected that the vessel will continue to evolve and adapt to new technological frontiers, many of which will be explored and exposed aboard the vessel itself.

Design Explanation

The RDS Uniform is built on a dual keels with two distinct design hemispheres at the rear of the vessel with vast areas of exposed superstructure the intention being to adapt and build the vessel, underway, to better suit its mission profile. In appearance the vessel resembles deep orbit space station though its sizable engines and tapered shape clearly identify the vessel as fully mobile.

Modular facilities and self contained pods fill out the superstructure, and as a whole, give the Uniform a much more solid appearance then its actual construction grants. The ship is not without integrated areas, however; and features an extensive network of access tunnels. Command and control stations are, for the most part, located in fixed positions selected to best fit the function of any given station.

Unlike a ship-of-the-line or other military type vessel the RDS Uniform features a cutting edge assortment of scientific equipment; particle accelerators and deep space telescopes to name two.

Personnel Explanation

With a mixed crew of civilian and enlisted persons as well a very sizable population of mechanical entities the RDS Uniform features a fairly unique and specialized command structure not entirely understood by those outside the project.

Generally speaking the Navy is tasked with the maintenance and physical command of the vessel while the Army tends to function as an embarked peacekeeping organization. The civilian population is composed of privately contracted members of the galactic scientific community. These roles are not predetermined.

With a project staff of almost a thousand individuals virtually every area of scientific exploration is represented. Areas of study include but are not limited to; quantum theory, holography, metallurgy, astro-physics, genetics and physiology.

Practical Application (OOC)

The RDS Uniform will incorporate future R&D projects
The RDS Uniform is a limited construction facility
The RDS Uniform is not a fixed status vessle
The RDS Uniform will be an evolving R&D
