Project Provincial Guard
Designation: Colonial Commando
Deployment: Gestalt Colonies, Colonial Defense Fleet
Affiliation: Gestalt Colonies, Kashan Defense Fleet, Galactic Coalition
Enter the Colonial Commando, the elite defense force of the Colonial Defense Fleet.
Commandos are recruited from the Colonial Fleet and Colonial Defense Force alike. They are selected from the finest available and further developed through extensive training conducted largely by the Kashan Defense Shock Troopers. Upon completion of training Colonial Commandos are awarded an equal rank in the Colonial Defense Fleet and assigned to CDF deployments.
The ubiquitous Commando armor is purchased from KDI as is the majority of their kit.
Uniform
Out of their combat armor Colonial Commandos wear various clothes but all are assigned a dress uniform which is unique to the corp. It is a blue and white affair with epaulettes and a crackerjack not unlike those worn by commissioned officers.
Body Armor
Supplied by KDI, the Colonial Commando wears Eagle Mk III Body Armor which is based on (Old) Republic Clone Armor. This version was developed by Kashan and features many refinements above the original. The insignia of the Colonial Defense Fleet is emblazoned on the suit along with other Colonial identification measures; these are the only significant differences.
Sidearm
Each Colonial Commando carries a Colonial Arms Defender. This is a particle weapon that fires a solid shot; or “slug”. It is a heavy pistol that deals significant damage and produces a considerable rate of fire with a variable magazine that carries fifty rounds. Despite the fact that the weapon has the potential to do serious collateral damage the Commando carries his sidearm at all times as a testament to his marksmanship. This sidearm is a sign of respect and achievement which is only carried by Colonial Commandos.
Rifle
The Colonial Commando is trained in the use of a wide array of weapons. In tactical deployment the assault manifest carried by a given squadron depends on the mission profile, however; each Commando does have a standard rifle. An updated DC-17m Interchangable Weapons System is assigned to each Colonial Commando. These are supplied by KDI contracts and remanufactured by Colonial Technologies.
Deployment
Colonial Commandos can be found anywhere throughout the Colonial Defense Fleet. They are deployed in standard squadron formations aboard each Colonial starship above Commonwealth-class, however; their mission profiles often take them to the most remote areas. Well socialized, they integrate well with other members of the armed forces but have a certain elite rapport which they keep to themselves. Most, if not all of the Colonial Commandos have been recruited from similar enlistments.
Training
Kashan Shock Troopers figure heavily in the training of Colonial Commandos. The two branches share many similarities. Their regimen is unlike any other in the Fleet and they are expected to maintain a certain level of mental and physical acuity. Colonial Commandos must have some previous service record in the CDF relevant to the trade and present the highest scores on written and practical testing and reports. It is an arduous task just to become a Commando, surviving the training is another story all together. Once completed they are inseparable brothers in arms and incomparable soldiers.
The Why, Where, When, Who, What and How
As the Gestalt Colonies continues to expand its interests it will become increasingly important to have a competent fighting force aside from the Fleet line.
Camp Mar-Veil will be host to a new training facility and associated establishments. Aside from officer training to be developed new training academy will be included. The new divisional corps will be headquartered here and at CDF headquarters on Gestalt I. This new facility will be dubbed Lucerne Academy in honor of the Kashan Commodore.
This new facility will be operational before the Gestalt-Kashan hyperlane is completed. Our first class will be prepared in six months time thanks in no small part to the Kashan Defense Fleet. Operating alongside fully trained and seasoned Kashan veterans the Commandos will achieve maximum training efficiency in a minimal window of time. Squadron deployment aboard the vessels of the Colonial Defense Fleet will follow.
Many of our first rotation Commandos will be of Kashan exchange. They will be tasked with the supervision and coordination of primary deployment and rotated according to class graduation from the Academy. There after candidates will be selected according to a number of dictates; years in service, service record, physical and mental rating and so on. Of those selected not all will become Commandos, those who do will be among the most highly trained non-commissioned officers in the CDF.
Both KDF and KDI will figure heavily in the establishment of a successful elite corps. In return for their efforts, which are not insignificant, the Kashans will have first production rights aside from pre-existing Coalition rights for the foreseeable future. This would not be possible without help from the Kashan Government.
