Project Panacea - GC
A Panacea is a cure-all, something that could cure any and all conditions. Although often used as a part of a metaphor, the galaxy has nearly never seen anything like this in the actual medical sense. This has concerned Coalition medical experts for some time. There are simply too many diseases, too many conditions throughout the galaxy to be tackled one by one.
And so, in secret, a team of medical experts from throughout the galaxy have been making use of near-unlimited Coalition funds to tirelessly create something that would work under any condition and against any threat.
The Panacea project began slowly, with ideas such as gene therapy and wondrous chemicals each tested and rejected as not nearly broad enough in scope or effective enough in purpose. Finally, during a stroke of genius, tiny droids were settled upon.
The idea was simple in theory: microscopic droids, built smaller then cells and making use of natural, excess bioenergy made by all living things, would be programmed to the specifications of each race. They would travel throughout the body ensuring that nothing that breached programming would be allowed.
Early designs were difficult to do, but eventually as several problems concerning size and programming were solved, the design came together. The devices proved effective at destroying bacteria, and even things such as cancers or unnatural build-ups of mucus and other such matter that would block vital tubes. It was a painstaking process, filling in the exact details of each race and how they operate, and even afterwards details remained to be filled in before implementation.
Early trial runs proved successful in virtual simulations, which turned out to be vital as a design-flaw was discovered whereby damaged or otherwise disabled Panacea droids might become a hindrance or even a threat, but this was solved by a sort of self-destruct system, which would cause the droid to dissipate harmlessly if crtically damaged or if its' programming was altered.
The final testing and announcment of this revolutionary step forwards in medical science is due to be announced as soon as possible.
