Phalanx Defender (TNO)
Phalanx Defender
Designed by the Imperial engineers operating from the Arc Hammer research facility and Yaga Minor and funded by the Imperial Ubiqtorate, the Phalanx Defender is the next generation in starship defence.
Recognising that starfighters spelt the doom of both Death Star battlestations and countless Imperial Star Destroyers during the course of the Galactic Civil War, Imperial engineers began to develop a missile defence system to be implimented fleet wide.
The Phalanx Galting Laser Network had been previously installed on certain next-generation Imperial warships including the Star Avenger and Messiah ACSS, but the older warships were still vulnerable to warhead attacks by enemy starfighters and capital cruisers.
The result is the Phalanx Defender, a complete missile defence network to be incorporated aboard all Imperial warships.
The system is made of up a variety of singular technologies combined to create a nearly-flawness net to deflect enemy assaults.
Fire Wall
Utilizing embedded sensors that detect enemy missile launches, the Fire Wall reacts by immediatly launching a series of cluster traps directly in the path of the incoming warheads. These bombs explode in front of enemy warheads, shredding them and preventing them from impacting with the vessel itself.
Phalanx Cannon
An eight-barreled laser cannon that fires relitively weak lasers at an incredibly high rate of fire, these cannons track and destroy enemy missiles at an astonishing rate. Highly useful for picking off stray missiles and for laying down covering fire against incoming salvos. The Phalanx cannons have also been known to cause damage to unshielded starfighters at close range.
Rocket Flares
Designed to deflect heat-seaking missiles and heavy ordance, rocket flares shoot out from the hull and burn extremely hot, causing any heat-based tracking systems to lock onto them as a target. When the rocket strikes the flare, it is detonated.
EMP Barrier
An electromagnetic field that extends only a centimeters from the hull, the EMP barrier is a last resort in the event that enemy warheads manage to breach the shields. As missiles pass through the EMP barrier, their simple computers are scrambled, causing them to bounce harmlessly off the hull instead of being detonated by their onboard computers.
MagCon Containment
More of a safety device than a defence, the MagCon Containment system is a lockdown that will immediatly seal a hull breach, allowing repair crews easy access to begin work on the vessel, and prevent crew members and equipment from being exposed to vacuum.
This combination of anti-missile systems makes the Phalanx Defender the premier anti-missile network in the galaxy. With nearly 100% success against long range attack and 95% success against short range attacks, the Phalanx Defender is expected to give Imperial capital ships the ability to continue fighting despite repeated missile attacks.
