NI-1 Neural Cognative Implant
The NI-1 Implant is a new development from Stellar Enterprises continual experimentation with nano technology. The NI stands for Neural Implant and describes it perfectly. With the use of nano tech, Stellar Enterprises scientists developed self assembling robots that once injected into a person's blood stream travel to the brain and assemble themselves into a complete receiver/transmitter.
Once linked with the target's brain chemistry, the NI-1 learns their thought process and is able to carry out commands after a few weeks of learning curve. Powered by the person's own body, it acts almost exactly like a living cell and can last for almost as long as the person can survive.
Upon learning to use the NI-1, a person is able to access any wireless computer connection and exchange data with said connection. By connections to the person's brain, the implant is able to recreate all the data received through audio feedback or visual. Audio is recreated by tapping into the person's temporal lobe and simulation speech that only they could hear. Visual is similar, but it lets the person actually see data in their eyes. This is accomplished through simulating the actually visual frequencies that would have been seen by the person's own eyes (difficult to explain).
Other then receiving data, the person implanted can send data by just thinking about it. The uses are varied and many. Commanders of ships no longer will have to issue orders by mouth, but could simply think about them and have the whole crew receive those orders. This would save time and increase crew response. Datapads will also become useless as all implanted people would be able to view any data inside their heads and send replies with just a thought.
The only way to detect this implant is with a full medical scan and even then it would appear as simply a growth or micro tumor. This makes the NI-1 perfect for covert operations as one can access systems wirelessly and record any data they wish from a distance. Linking to a wireless recording devices allows anyone with the implant to send all that they see and hear through this wireless connection and have it be recorded.
For now the technology is classified and only known by Stellar Enterprises personnel that have it implanted within them. Do to the cost and complexity of the NI-1, only select members of Stellar Enterprises will be implanted, such as executives, military generals, and some high diplomatic people. Research is still underway on the effects the implant can have against other species. Certain nonhuman species have shown heavy side effects that resulted in the removal of said implant. Symptoms had included nausea, disorientation, numbness in extremities, temporary memory loss, vision loss, hallucinations (visual and auditory), as well as, in one very rare case, completely mental instability.
One effect common to all, however, is moderate to sever headaches when around powerful transmitters or electric currents.
