Redesign: The Renova design allows for the warship to create a path through an interdiction field allowing for either itself and/or a fleet to escape possible interdiction traps. Due to the power requirements for this maneuver, the shields are inoperable requiring the hull to be heavier than necessary.

Due to the many races that make up the Galactic Coalition (and the New Republic of years past), the Research and Development Department investigated the various technological endeavors of the many cultures only to discover that a certain derivative of a plant sap (now classified) breaks absorbs the energy from an ion weapon. The effect of adding this derivative between alloys (hull and blisters) allows for not only protecting a vessel from ion weaponry but renders boarding craft or other boarding means via contact inoperable as the ions are discharged at the area of each breach (sectional). The code name for this derivative is the Diversity Composite and is classified.

Special System:
ATS: Anti-Targeting System
The Anti-targeting system is designed to cast a field 100 km out to disrupt any signals being sent to gather computerized target locks. Typically, targeting computers derive their object targets based on data gathered in concert with standard ship's sensor package or independent signal casting device. The field of ATS disrupts those incoming signals by offsetting/reflecting the data back to it's origin. The result being wrong targeting data being received (the farther away the more off track) which would result is less positive (or less critical) strikes.

Standard Boarding intrusion detection and defense package: The the standard sensor/com/jam/blastdoor/environmental/automated weapon setup which would slow down boarders but, in themselves, not stop an advance of determined soldiers. Ship soldiers and crew would be for that. Only difference is that these anti-intrusion devices are sectioned off meaning damage to a certain part of the hull will not render all anti-intrusion devices inoperable on that deck.
The Coalition Forward Political Group of individuals pushed for years to fund a warship for a new style of fighting. As then High Lord, now Prime Minister, Regrad's new organization initiatives took root in the Coalition Military, Coalition Forward felt an immediate need to design a new class of warships along the New Republic philosophy of (what they called) "Protected Democracy".
What good was their way of life if they could not protect those member worlds who entrusted the Central Government with their life and freedoms?
Undefended ideals might as well be dead ideals.
With the resulting rebuilt Coalition ecomony and with the funds of the former Sovereignty treasury Coalition Forward built a series of craft, the first a Battleship being honored with the legendary Vlyx designation. A warship made famous by the great Jedi Admirals Gash Jiren and Xylon Hexyra.
However, the design of this Vlyx differs once past the appearance.
This vessel is not a diplomatic craft nor a harrass and raid craft. It is a pure warship with a sole purpose for defending against the illegal encroachments of various outside government factions. It is a vessel built with an excess of power and an ability to distribute this power anywhere needed within the ship. Heavily armoured and gunned, the Freedom Class warship constitutes a necessary inclusion into the Coalition Fleet.
This is also one of the first vessels of the Coalition to employ much more multi-racial crews and systems. The Diversity Project started as a social integration initiative funded by Coalition Forward that soon saw application within the military framework. The result of the program was so successful that more applications are being investigated for the future.
Current funding has only seen the production of two such battleships with a third in mid construction and a fourth on the drawing board.
