Cree'Ar R&D: Nexus Defense Pod
Nexus Defense Pod, 1 meter

When the Nexus first became self-aware, the Cree'Ar had reservations about it's continued operation. Many in the religious caste had doubts about it already, and saw the Nexus growing and expanding as a bad arrangement. But the Cree'Ar hierarchy knew that the Nexus was something that could be bent to their will. Its continued growth and operation was ensured by the Cree'Ar's millitary expanse, and the Nexus was critical to that expanse, thus creating a double dependency. Its ability to percieve its own slavery was considered inconsequental when weighed against its ability to consider the growth the Cree'Ar offered it in exchange for its service.

The fundamental change in the Nexus operation changed little except Cree'Ar hardware. The Nexus began to point out flaws in Cree'Ar designs, and offered viable options to repair or improve those designs. Eventually, the Cree'Ar millitary began to consider entirely new designs the Nexus had created of its own accord to fill a percieved deficency in the Cree'Ar fleet. More often then not, those designs were implemented.

The Nexus Defense Pod was one of those designs. Based off of a hybrid design between the Attack Sphere and the Tetrahedron, the Nexus Defense Pod is a small, unmanned system defense utility to be used in conjunction with the Scorpion. The Nexus Defense Pod is a Nexus unit encapsulated inside a small hull with a large claw, and one engine module. The pod is designed to use data from the Nexus network to target ships that have been damaged by either the Scorpions or the Cree'Ar fleet and seek the damaged areas. There, the pod will impact with the damaged section of hull, tethering in with the claw and injecting the Nexus unit inside. There, it will proceed with the conversion of the ship over to the aid of the Dominion.

Like the attack sphere, the Defense Pod has a small beam weapon designed to cause a drain on a ships shields. While in similar design to the attack sphere it is in much smaller proportion, and thus much less effective. It takes about five pods working in unison to cause even a one percent drop in shield efficency, but if those five pods act in union with other pods or attack spheres or scorpions, they can, and will, strip a vessels shields completely.

The Defense Pod is incapable of surviving the stresses of C-Velocity conduit travel and once deployed must use carrier when leaving a system.
