Description:
The Contegori-class Star Destroyer is the Confederation’s answer to larger vessels fielded by other galactic superpowers. It is nearly twice as large as the next closest standard Confederation warship: the Pegasus-class Star Destroyer. It is a design whose mere presence that inspires confidence within the Contegorian fleet.
The Contegori is not a purely Confederation grown design. It is more of a modernization of the Old Republic’s Praetor-class Battlecruiser augmented by standard Confederation technology. To ease the production and maintenance, the Contegori mainly uses components off the Pegasus-class. For example, the main weapons of the Contegori-class are exactly the same as the Pegasus-class, albeit in different amounts. The only technology unique to the Contegori are its shield generators. It has shields whose ratings are equivalent to those on the much smaller Nebula-class, but also has a twice as fast shield recharge rate. In essence, this makes the warship more vulnerable against piercing strikes but improves its durability against saturation attacks. The armor is also somewhat unique in the Confederation fleet for one reason: it has the same composition as that used on the Imperator-class Star Destroyer.
Design History: The design of the Praetor-class was one of many Old Republic designs found in Abhean’s shipbuilding databanks from the planet’s former shipbuilding duties with that power. During Old Republic times, Praetors were not only heavy combat vessels, but also constituted as command vessels for smaller star destroyers such as the Venerator or Victory-classes. Thus, it was little surprise that the Confederation, needing a vessel with a similar purpose, chose to update the existing design rather than start from scratch.
Role and Deployment: The Contegori-class is an intermediate between a carrier vessel like a Reign-class Star Destroyer and a more pure combatant like the Sword of Hapes-class. It will deployed in a manner similar to the old Empire’s Allegiance-class Star Destroyers, leading heavy battle squadrons and acting as a command ship. Contegori production will be handled in part by all Confederation industrial worlds in some aspect to quickly get the warship on the frontline.
