Quantum Entanglement Transmission System - (QETS)

The QETS is a revolutionary new method of broadcasting realtime communications utilising Quantum entanglement as a means with which to send information to far and remote places virtually instantaneously, either in an unending steady , constant stream of information , or in short sharp bursts.

The system converts information (in whatever shape or form it takes, ie: computer data, or Holographic communicae), into pure energy , then transports it in a form of 'Quantum teleportation' - (which takes a nanosecond - ( one billionth of one second) to its intended target destination, (as long as the recipients have a dedicated QETS receiver which can then receive and decrypt this energy back into the original information).

On the receivers side , this information is accessed virtually instantly , and as a result the normal delay experienced in long intergalactic transmissions (using standard subspace frequencies), is a thing of the past.

The benefits of this system are obvious, whether used in merely a civilian context, or in a military capacity, and because distance is no object, (since the quickest route from point A to point B is Zero), a ship can transmit and receive up to date battle reports , orders and data virtually instantaneously.

The other huge advantage for this system is, because it does not utilize normal subspace transmissions or frequencies, there is no 'transmission' for any enemy or hostile to intercept , read or jam, (because there is no journey for it to take).

This system is effectively a form of 'Quantum teleportation' , and since it works only on a quantum level it can only transport data and information, by converting it into energy, everything is sent luminally. It cannot transport or teleport any form of 'solid matter' (ie: people / troops/ ships etc).

Also , because it is a new radical technique, older ships will have to be upgraded to accommodate this new technology, but newer Commonwealth ships will have utilize this system as standard.

The end result is also a miracle of micro engineering, creating a communications device which can be used onboard a starship, or on a comms unit for an individual*.

Since the system works on an entirely different level to that of normal subspace frequencies, it is not subjected to the same weaknesses that can befall these type of transmissions, and since it does not transmit a signal in a conventional sense it cannot be intercepted either.

If one were to even attempt to, it would be a useless excercise, since all transmissions are encrypted on a quantum level also. This makes it impossible to decipher even if one was to have an emitter under control, (the signal can only be decrypted by the dedicated reciever).

This system is designed to be the defacto standard of Commonwealth communications technology, and in the eyes of those in the Commonwealth at least, shall render the standard forms of subspace communications obsolete.

However , this cannot be said for the rest of the galaxy. So to ensure compatability with those who do not utilise this system, the QETS is able to receive , translate, encrypt and form a bridge in order to ensure the Commonwealth and its denizens can communicate effectively with the rest of the galaxy.

*(By the miracule of minaturisation a comms unit signal can be relayed in the form of a small unit or by a small implant).

Quantum Entaglement explained:

Strictly speaking, the teleportation process involves a photon’s individual quantum state, a key characteristic that defines that particle’s nature and behavior. Teleportation isn't exactly faster-than-light, in the sense that an intermediate, light-speed-or-below step is required.
One technique to create entanglement involves sending a brief pulse of ultraviolet light through a specialized crystal that splits a single, high-energy photon into two lower-energy photons. Because the particles’ polarization -- a mathematical property that describes a photon’s physical orientation -- is complementary, the photons are said to be entangled.
In order to teleport, however, a third photon must also be involved.

When the first of the two originally entangled photons --- call it photon A --- is sent to the same location as an un-entangled third photon --- call it photon C --- then A and C subsequently become entangled. A special test, known as a Bell-state measurement is then conducted, and photon C loses its original quantum-state identity. Instantly, the second of the two originally entangled photons --- call it photon B --- is itself transformed: B becomes C. For all practical purposes, photon C has teleported to B’s location. And B is nowhere to be found.
Despite B’s quantum-state destruction (because its polarization is now that of C, for all intents and purposes, B is C and no longer B), no cosmic rules have been broken. No information has been sent faster than light because, for B to become C, information on A’s properties must be communicated via light-speed-observing devices like radios, telephones or computers.
Additionally, there is no violation of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, which holds that no observer can know both the position and speed of a basic particle (which would allow otherwise impermissible, exact copying of matter down to the subatomic level).

* EDIT = Made clearer the differences between standard communications and those of the QETS.
