Solar Fusion Array - (SFA)
The SFA system , is bascially an orbiting energy generator, which absorbs raw energy from selected stars, but with a difference.
This form of energy collection is nothing new or revolutionary, but the method of delivering it to its intended recipients is.
Utilizing the recent breakthroughs by Commonwealth scientists on a quantum level, the array converts the raw solar energy into a refined energy beam which can then be transmitted over vast distances anywhere, virtually realtime, via the revolutionary QETS* (Quantum Entanglement Transmission System). The array is simply a modified version of this system.
Effectively a form of ``quantum teleportation'' which takes a nanosecond - ( one billionth of one second) - and which will soon become the de facto communication relay system, for the Commonwealth and its worlds.
Once the feed is established, it remains stable and open in order to keep the flow of energy constant , to avoid any power fluctuations the feed is closely monitered by the array itself, (which is completely automatic, and simply controlled remotely by the intended recipients). Although the power needed to perform this no small feat of Quantum mechanics (?) is huge, the system simply draws the power it needs itself from the solar body it orbits, as well as powering the QETS* system itself.
Should more power be required, many array's can be placed and activated.
The SFA system itself , collects the raw power from the solar body it orbits then directs the energy to the desired location. Where it is then received , converted and directed to its intended use.
This to all intents and purposes makes this system an energy transporter, which thanks to the tremendous and constant power output is possible of powering whole fleets, and cities remotely. This means cities powered by this versatile system, will not need huge unsightly power stations to be created on location ,making space exploration and colonnisation far easier and quicker. Alternatively any ship or vessel powered via this array would not need onboard power generators , just a reciever to collect and process the transmitted energy supply.
The benefits of this system are obvious, without the need of large, bulky power generators installed, space can be saved and put to more constructive uses.
This does mean however, any old ships or vessels intending to utilise this system will have to undergo extensive refitting and rewiring to accomodate this new method of power distribution.
Newer Commonwealth ships and vessels, however, will have this system incorporated as standard. (with perhaps smaller back-up generators in case of emergency).
The system is reliable, clean, and as long as there are stars, completely inexhaustible.
The entire array itself is spherical in shape and has a circumference about 105m across.
