Description:
The Starsika class starfreighter is designed to suite the needs of the starstriker corporation for a fast, heavy transport ship that can get it's goods where they need to go, and on time. The freighter is designed around a large oval double hulled storage tank that can withstand temperatures of up to several thousand degrees darenholt. In addition, the double hull contains metal materiel that can trap and hold heat in it's place, meaning the freighter will be able to transport molten rock and liquid metals from smelting facilites to orbital factories without any trouble. This is, in fact, mainly what the freighter is designed to accomodate. A large tube on the bottom of the ship loads and disgorges the molten materiel into the silo of the factory station the freighter is docked to.
With pirates and other scum running around these days, protection is one of the first priorities of the company. Strong military grade shields protect the length of the vessel, while durable hull armour protects the additional engines and crew quarters, although the double heat resistant hull of the container section already has strong defensive values. As for weaponry, there are two sponspons running alongside the length of the ship, and each one contains one triple turbolaser turret and two quad laser cannons. The triple turbolaser turret is in essence a battery with three cannons mounted on it. In the absence of the turbolaser technology that makes the various faction's warships so powerful, it was decided to mount enough cannons to offer the same kind of firepower as a turbolaser battery. The quad laser cannons are mounted on fast reflexive mounts and are designed to shoot down enemy starfighters and small shuttles.
In addition to protection, propulsion is an important aspect of the freighter. The ship is faster than most military models, and contains the latest state of the art hyperdrive. Eight ion engines, two to a flank of the freighter, propel it forwards, while numerous small manuevering jets dotted along the hull allow the ship to precisley dock with the stations without any trouble. The ship is designed to hold a large amount of liquid materiel, and is crewed by a staff of about two hundred fifty personnel.
