Description
The Black Ice Shield Modulator is a modification made to the shield generators of any craft with a ray-shield generator. Developed by Vor Light Systems, the company of former military scientist Vor, the Black Ice Shield Modulator is a shield harmonics adjustment unit. Shields typically allow energy out in the form of the crafts own weapons, but do not allow energy in. By adjusting the frequency of the shields the Black Ice Modulator duplicates this effect in a different manner. The electromagnetic spectrum is allowed in in harmless quantities, but it is not allowed out.

When an equipped craft enters a star system, a program in the computer analyzes the radiant light spectrum, and sends the light frequency data to the modulators inside the ray shield generators. The shield frequency is then modified to that of the star system. While this adjustment is not truly necessary, it takes but a few seconds and provides a good addition to the deflection capabilities of the system. When ray shields are initialized waves of the electromagnetic spectrum penetrate the shield like normal. They are then deflected off of the hull like normal. At this point the waves are caught by the modified shield, and deflected again. And endless loop could occur from this activity, leading to the theorization that a craft could possibly 'catch' enough light to burn itself up. When pared with Shadow Paint, which turns the electromagnetic spectrum into heat energy, this unproven danger is averted.

In conclusion, bands of the electromagnetic spectrum are not allowed out of a Black Ice modified shield.
