Genon was a planet not far from Imperial commercial centers but it was nearly devoid of settlement because of its most infamous inhabitant: Grappa the Hutt. Grappa used Genon as his base of operations, and his own reputation combined with his well-known connections to Black Sun kept the Empire and others at bay.
Mirith Sinn led a New Republic assault on Grappa's operations in an effort to rescue Kir Kanos and inflicted heavy damage against Grappa's base. Fearing reprisal from Black Sun for Grappa's treachery, Grappa's underlings fled Genon and Grappa himself was taken by the Zanibar. Genon presumably remained uninhabited afterward.
TRF History: Genon was taken from criminals by the Kashan Defence Fleet under the command of Commodore Corise Lucerne in a pitched battle. In the aftermath, the Kashan Colonial Army occupied Grappa’s fortress as a military outpost, thus establishing a permanent Coalition presence onsite. Shortly thereafter, Stellar Enterprises was hired to build up planetary defences for the planet, and subsequently, build up the infrastructure necessary for a thriving colony. It did this successfully, and also established factories and light mining operations on corporate land gained from the deals with the Confederation. Throughout the stretch of building, colonists from various Confederation worlds started to settle the planet, most of whom came from Metalorn, but also from other worlds, notably Kashan and Audacia. With the colonization finished, Genon, with the help of the Zaltin corporation, has become a bacta producing planet. A large amount of Vratix have also colonized the planet for the same reason, making it the largest alien population within the human-dominated Confederation. When the Confederation seceded from the Galactic Coalition, Genon became the seat of power for the Contegorian Confederation. The world famously hosts Atlas Hall, where the Contegorian Council holds meetings, and the Genon Stock Exchange.
Role in the Contegorian Confederation: Genon is primarily known as the capital of the Confederation, hosting many of the government bureaucracy. In terms of economy, Genon serves primarily as an agricultural world with the production of bacta via a partnership between the Confederation and the Zaltin Corporation. While human workers run the bureaucracy and some of the processing plants for the medicine, the Vratix cultivate the Alazhi via fungus, as well as produce the other chemicals needed for the medicine. Some of the bacta is shipped off for the Confederation and Coalition militaries, while the rest is sold on the galactic market, with the profits being split between Zaltin and the Confederaton.
