Showcase 2006
Back by popular demand... well, actually it was Zarko's sarcastic needling, here is just the tip of the iceberg (so to speak) of the great reading and great writing you can find on The Rebel Faction.
Word from Kaine: This was, quite frankly, Dolash's idea. Sort of an "out of time" debate between Kaine and Regrad. At first, I had put forth the idea that the rp correspond to an actual chess game between Dolash and myself which would have been interesting though impractical. Still, I wonder what would have happened if we had done that and Dolash beat me? heh.
I don't know what possessed Dolash to come up with this idea but it's interesting to flesh out character motives and blur the lines of what they truly believe and what they'll lie for.
Credit all goes to Dolash for this one.
Dolash Speaks Up: I'm not too sure how I came up with this one. Now that I think about it, it's kind of like that chess-playing scene from the X-men movie, at the end. It just sort of came about. A while ago, I talked about how TRF doesn't have any grand strategists, like in Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, who match wits using every weapon in the world, and I thought perhaps a chess-game between Regrad and Simon might perhaps create the image of two men in whose hands the galaxy may well rest. Plus, in the future, it could be used as foreshadowing - maybe Regrad will start replaying the chess game in his tower, trying out new strategies before key operations?
I would like to say that it is really, really hard to argue with Simon - because Omnae, the writer, is someone who I greatly trust and think is excellent and has a great sense of the truth of every situation, and he uses that exact logical, sensible tone when writing as Simon on the topic of Empire. I almost want to believe everything Simon says by default, as evidenced by Regrad's drop in spirits.
Ahnk's Corner: Awesome. Purely awesome. You combine TRF's best writer with probably the writer on board with the most potential to be amazing and the thread is nothing short of spectacular. Say what you will about Dolash, but he's a good writer, and at his age...
Omnae Sez: Union mischief. Still, Brutus is one of those roleplayers who'll scheme farther than most. You never know where the knife will end up. My interest in this thread is to find out just what he's up too and where it will fit in the grand scheme of things.
So I can crush it! mwah! (as Beff would say)
Dolash's Speaks Up: I have a tonne and a half of respect for the union's roleplayers - they do something new, innovative, and isn't tied down to the ole' fleeting and planets game. They might use them, sure, but they're a real creative bunch, and its' threads like these that really stand out at TRF.
Ahnk's Corner: Gue said it best. It's an excellent extension of the character. I love the Unity threads and I love that the Union really seems to be operating to it's MO.
A Word from the Author, Brutus Nogoth:
Ahnk's Corner: Say what you will about Dolash, but he has a great sense of timing.
From the Author, Dolash:
Omnae Sez: The brainchild of Lupercus, Seth Vinda and Zark Ekan, this roleplay builds on what VC and Capricia are doing in Genesis I. I roleplayed Kaine meeting with Hapans once and I like the differences between both meetings. One little thing I did was play the same house staff from the TNO/Hapan thread again in this one. I like the little consistencies. This rp will also link Zark's people of Helix and the Capricians which will get a nod in the new Origins thread and in Zark's Beachhead thread. I don't think I've evern roleplayed with Zark before so that's a plus! This is going to be the foundation to alot of great future roleplays.
Ahnk's Corner: Has Seth Vinda ever been in a bad roleplay? Besides one of mine?
Dolash's Crowd of Commies: Ahnk is right. Everything that Seth touches turns to gold. And chocolate. This is because long ago he found the hand of midas, that promised him everything he touched would turn gold, and he said "f*ck that, I get chocolate too, or I go home." And he got it. Because he is Seth.
In a more serious light, I think it's an interesting read because it shows that even though Seth isn't conquering worlds or annihilating races every day, he's still working behind the scenes and making ripples that could one day turn into might tidal waves.
Omnae Sez: What can I say? Ahnk is the man! If there is one person who's stuff I will always read, it's Ahnk's. He's got a talent that makes you stand up and actually care about what's happening to his characters. And his dialogue? I keep thinking I am writing teletubby dialogue compared to his.
This has epic written all over it.
Ahnks Speaks the Truth, taken from People Magazine:
From Dolash's Crowd of Commies: I hadn't heard of this until the showcase - which is a surprise, because Simon shares Seth's gold-and-chocolate power. I'm getting into it now, though, and finding it up to the usual professional standards of its' author. Haven't gotten to the end of the thread yet, but good stuff. It really goes to show that when you're the undisputed Master of the Galaxy, you can write about whatever you want, when you want it. If Simon decided tomorrow he wanted to write a story about the tomatoes of Azguard coming alive and devouring their Azguardian tenders, decimating the population forever, I would be honored that he remembered the tomatoes.
Word of Kaine: Heh. This idea actually started from reading an R&D feature that had never been used. I didn't expect this rp to actually be a hit, just a little side rp that was ..well "different".
Kas and Ren were doing art to go along with this but I let them down when I stopped adding to the rp. Sorry guys! But I will finish this one eventually.
