Description - Deadlier than the common Imperial Escort Carrier, the Aegis Star Carrier serves the same function: to carry TIE Fighters to battle zones when Star Destroyers or larger craft are not available for the task. The need for such a carrier was apparent because the Escort Carrier could not stand up to enemy Frigates. Sienar responded with the Interceptor, and Aegis responded with the Star Carrier. Heavily armed, the Star Carrier was a cruiser in its own right, able to defend itself from medium-size cruisers and capital ships. Despite the heavy weaponry, the Aegis Star Carrier is usually limited to starfighter transport. The Star Carrier holds a whole wing, six squadrons, of TIEs. Despite such qualifications to its credit, the Star Carrier is not widely used because of its purchase and maintenance cost.
