Just picked up this hardback for a dollar. Was it really that bad? Not even a half-priced book store would sell it for half price.

I wouldn't say so, but then there is a general consensus that anything taking place during or after NJO is automatically slotted into the 'bad' category, regardless of who writes it.

Heh, I'm still on the third book of the Thrawn trilogy. Hmm. Maybe I should go finish that right now...

I don't think they are all bad. I did not like that bug/joiner series but I started that "Search for the Jedi" or whatever that series is called Luke is banished to follow in Jaden's path. I am waiting for those hardbacks to sell for $1 so I can finish the series.

I was thinking the "kids" of the oldies would become this new generation of heroes that would continue the stories but they ended up killing most of the new generation in favor of getting more mileage out of Luke, Han and the gang. They must be in their 60s now.

Let's hear it for bacta treatments!

From what I understand a lot of fans didn't like the change brought on by the Vong invasion. That being said, the the NJO itself is only about 50/50 in the way of bad novels. The Dark Nest series is best avoided all together, with Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series being fun reads all together.

I did the math on Han's age for a facebook discussion back when Disney first bought Star Wars and I had it pegged as 80+ based off the age he was supposed to be in the Han Solo Trilogy and what the more recent books show as the timeline between those books and the newer books. Leia and Luke should "only" be 58 at the start of the Fate of the Jedi series which is the series you're referring to above.

As far as the general comments of new vs old, there was a decent number of mediocre old star wars books as well, which I feel is ignored. The New Rebellion and Truce at Bakura are 2 I was never huge fans of. The Corellian Triology where Thracken Sal-Solo takes over Corellia I enjoyed, but didn't like it as much as some others. I don't think all of the NJO and later series were bad, I just think sometimes they made the series so long you were bound to have some bad books. I mean NJO is like 20 books, so having a few duds is to be expected. The Swarm War triology I wasn't big on, but the series after where Jacen turns to the darkside was pretty good imo, just the overall plot points had been foreshadowed for so long you by and large knew what was going to happen the whole time.

All that being said, yes I've read pretty much all the books (with the exception of a lot of the pre A New Hope stuff) and I'll continue to be a sucker for Star Wars books for the future.
