Metellos
Headquarters of The Fegal Companies

The Fegal Companies, once a thriving business enterprise and a member of The Union had now fallen to decay. It had become stagnant and bloated with no ultimate goal save business as usual. It was still a well-oiled machine to be sure, pouring money into the pocket`s of it`s owner and investors.

Yet that was all it ever did, make money, a frivolous aim at best. Thus no one seemed to take notice or quite frankly even care when the CEO of the Fegal Companies chose to take an extended `vacation`.

However once that `vacation` extended beyond reason, the top executives grew concerned and they attempted to track down the illusive tycoon, Rac Fegal. Despite the extensive search for him, Rac Fegal remain hidden from the galaxy. His shuttle had disappeared off the face of the galaxy and no one had heard from it since.

Once Fegal`s disappearance became public knowledge wide spread speculation ensued, ranging from assassinations to plausible kidnapping. Yet while others panicked, there were those who rejoiced in secret and began to plot. Even tough they had no explanation for Fegal`s disappearance, they merely assumed he was either in hiding or or dead.

The executive board gathered for an emergency meeting only a week after Fegal disappeared. They sough to claim The Fegal Companies for themselves, an equal share for each member of the board. As soon as they would gain ownership, they would have full access to the assets of the Fegal Companies, not limited to a vast fortune and an army of droids. No doubt each and everyone of them had secretly yearned for this day.

Sedra, the former commander of the Fegal Fleet had been granted control over a subsidiary from the companies by Fegal some months ago. He, like many others, had harbored a grudge against Fegal. Sedra for one, especially loathed the dug, after having witnessed the monstrosities Fegal had committed for the sake of his own greed in building his mega conglomerate.

Yet lacking an armed force of their own, none of them had any true leverage against Fegal within his own realm, their one chance to seize power was here, no matter how suspicious it seemed. The search for Fegal had turned out to be inconclusive, he had supposedly retreated to his mansion on Fresia, but there was never any indication he had arrived. In other words he had never landed on Fresia or any other Fegal-controlled planet as far as their intelligence suggested.

Sedra was the only one not motivated by greed amongst the board, for him it was more about the chance to dethrone the CEO from power than anything else. He impatiently drummed the table with his fingers while the tech specialist hacked into Fegal`s private terminal. The terminal contained the access codes, that granted control over to the droid control systems and the accounts of the companies.

"Sir..." The specialist began with grave tone in his voice as he seemed to finally crack the security systems protecting the accounts.

"It`s empty..." The man uttered and outrage ensued throughout the board. Most of the assets, that Fegal had accumulated had vanished and before any of them had a chance to dig deeper into the mystery, worse events unfolded.

A holo feed appeared on the center of the table, displaying a perfectly healthy Rac Fegal dressed in modest clothing, which made him appear reminiscent of a common thug than a prosperous CEO. It had seemed as tough the air had been sucked out of the room at that very same moment as the board stared at Fegal, too stunned to say a word.

"This pre-recorded message is my resignation as the CEO of the Fegal Companies." Rac Fegal greeted them with a mellow expression on his face and all the members of the board could only stare in disbelief as the dug announced his resignation.

"I knew, that someone would eventually tap into my personal terminal in order to take control of the entity, that I have laboriously brought into being and now that this day has come I must express my grave disappointment in my creation. The Fegal Companies have become, a cripple bantha, which deserves to be put out of it`s misery.

Who is to blame for this...atrocity? While many will point their fingers at me and my ineffectual leadership. Yet those, who cast blame on me should be looking at each others for answers. Only with my guidance did these worlds rise from the dirt and make something of themselves. If I were to blame, then there would have never been a conglomerate to begin with."

At first the dug`s expression was, that of a defeatist. The once tenacious alien was willing to relinquish all that he had toiled for into the hands of others. Halfway through the message Fegal suddenly let out a chuckle, one born out of amusement.

"Truly, it is everyone else, that the fault of this failure rests upon. This is only one of the many reasons why I have chosen to abandon you, along with my money, that I earned through my work."

The holo figure pointed it`s right hand index finger at the gathered executives as tough it had suddenly recalled something important.

"Oh, by the way, upon receiving this message, the accounts you have tapped into activated a backdoor program buried in them. This program, once initiated, activates assassination protocols in the droids stationed all around Metellos. You understand, I can`t afford to leave any loose ends hanging around after I am gone, now can I?

On a final note, I`ve taken the liberty of arranging a janitor to clean up the mess after your done, please refrain from staining anything expensive on your way out."

The dug`s expression grew even smugger with every word he spewed out of his mouth and at the end of the message, he smirked widely at the board of executives. The droids, which had only moments ago stood stoically guarding the entrance to the room, now stormed in and aimed their weapons at the bewildered executives.

As they had tapped into the accounts, the aforementioned backdoor program had been activated, which Fegal had installed briefly before his departure. The program connected to the main droid control terminals, which reigned over the numerous war droids of Fegal`s private army.

Each of them, obeying the program without question, sough out and opened fire upon the list of designated people. Ironically the headquarters and the most important holdings on Metellos were filled with these droid, fulfilling a security detail.

Aboard his ship, via holofeed Rac Fegal looked on emphatically as the droids gunned down his former subordinates, Sedra being the last to fall, grasping on to life like the stubborn fool he was. Above the world, the elements of the Fegal Fleet, save for one ship, were presented with the same problem as the droids massacred any non-synthetic organism onboard.

The death toll was in the hundreds and the resistance was scarce, it would take quite some time for any sense out of this mess. By that time the ripple effect would have shook the entire corporate entity, whatever kind of limping wreckage survived would be no comparison to what it had once been.

Orbit of Metellos

Aboard Helios, a modified Ghtroc 720 light freighter, Rac Fegal sat in the pilot`s chair perfectly amused by the events unfolding below. As his machinations came finally to fruition a grim smile spread across his face upon seeing the would be thieves handed down their punishment.

Rac had always been extremely paranoid when it came to his personal safety and had been convinced, that one day someone within his own organization would attempt to assassinate him. That is why he rarely gave ultimate control of the droids to anyone save himself. The knowledge, that your death was a button push away was not a comforting thought. Yet today over months worth of skulking in the shadows and paranoia had paid off.

He had needed time to procure all his credits to his newly created, secret accounts across the galaxy. That and various other preparations had to be made, for example sabotage of the droid control system and `theft` of research blueprints had to be carried out in complete secrecy.

Certainly he had access to everything he wanted with no questions asked, but he had to be absolutely certain, that the board of executives didn`t have the slightest clue of what was transpiring behind their backs. They could have taken countermeasures to ensure their safety upon discovery of the plot.

In order to maintain, that secrecy Rac had only utilized his closest confidants or droids and silenced those, whom he could not trust, as long as their disappearance had not caused undue attention. He had also replaced the entire crew of the Red Talon, a Talon Escort Carrier from his fleet. Only a few trusted employee`s, who had been willing to embark with him on his new adventure, had remained of the previous crew.

All tough the carrier was been mainly operated by droids, there was a noticeable criminal element onboard as a part of the new crew. Fegal knew, that he would required experienced officers and smugglers at his employ in the coming days.

The carrier would become his own personal shadow port, a mobile safe heaven and base for his operations. Also it always helped to have a ship like the Talon as back-up. Currently the carrier was on it`s way to Nar Shaddaa, where it would wait for the arrival of it`s captain.

In the recent months Fegal had quite honestly, grown weary of his life as the CEO, the day to day operations of his mega conglomerate had become brutally menial and repetitive. Every day was the exactly the same and Fegal no longer had the patience to deal with corporate stooges, who looked no further than their own gain and sought to undermine him at every turn.

No doubt, eventually one of them would succeed in taking him out of the picture one way or another and carrying an all out purge would have been costly in more ways than financially. That is why he yearned for the times when he gambled with his life on the line amongst the stars, avoiding authorities and transported contraband to the richest criminals in the galaxy.

Also with the withdrawal of The Union`s support his fortunes had taken a turn for the worse and one of his main clients, the Hutt`s unforeseen losses would carve another dent into the business of the mega conglomerate. Rac Fegal for one recognized and valued opportunity, a fresh start with The Enclave did not suddenly seem all that bad.

The smuggling ring, that had operated all along in the shadows of the Fegal Companies would be revitalized with the credits Rac would funnel into it. To support his new venture, Rac had already gathered a formidable list of clientele throughout the galaxy, who would no doubt be pleased to continue trading with him.

Equipped with these vital connections, funds and a ship to serve as a mobile base of operations, Rac Fegal looked to carve a name for himself as one of the greatest smuggler in the galaxy. The Fegal Companies would crumble and give birth to the Fegal Cartel.

Once he had clamored enough of the destruction he had wrought, Rac turned to the quarren by the name of Jezk sitting in the co-pilots seat. The Quarren had been one of the captains in charge of the Fegal Fleet and even before that, he had functioned as Rac`s co-pilot during Rac`s career as a smuggler. The quarren was one of the few beings, who had any kind of understanding of Rac`s motives and he seemed quite pleased with the recent turn of events.

"That`s quite enough havoc for one day, I believe. Let`s brush the dust of these worlds off our feet, set course for Nar Shaddaa." Rac said with smirk on his face as he cut off the video feed of the events below.

"The Enclave truly chose an apt place to begin their little revolution, didn`t they?" The quarren mused with a sense of nostalgia at the mention of The Smugglers Moon while he began to input co-ordinates for their destination.

"And even better, they are recruiting, a score of smugglers have already signed onboard with them. Anyone with a set of brains can see, that the Enclave`s birth is ripe with possibilities."

Rac pointed out, but held his tongue about the other aspect of joining The Enclave as he knew, that he would gain some leeway with the man in charge, Consul Estro Sabrino, having been at his employ within The Union. Not that it wasn`t as tough he did not come bearing gifts, The Enclave ought to give him a warm welcome, if anything.

As the world of Metellos was tearing itself apart from within, Helios disappeared into hyper space, leaving behind a crumbling corporate entity. With this move Rac Fegal closed one chapter of his life and reopened another. He comfortably sat in the pilot`s chair as his new ship, customized per his wishes, sped towards Nar Shaddaa.

At his core Rac Fegal had always been a criminal and it was of little surprise, that one day he would stop deluding himself, that he was anything more than a smuggler.
