As the name specifies, I'm new. I'm perfectly capable of reading the information for new people, but I was wondering if you could give me some insight that isn't readily apparent. Anyone possessing such knowledge, please deign me worthy of bestowing your magic!

Are you asking how to roleplay or what Star Wars is?

Hello and welcome to The Rebel Faction!

We're a tight-knit community of writers in the Star Wars fiction vein who engage in what most call "RPing" (Role-Playing) but I prefer to think of as "collaborative creative writing". We've been around this series of tubes we call the internets since around, oh when was it guys? 2003? Anyway, many of us have been RPing even longer on other boards (I myself have been in the game since January of 2001) and its safe to say that TRF is deeply based in a sense of tradition and...heh, comraderie.

A couple disclaimers:

1) TRF was founded during a time when its name was meant to be taken literally. IE, a group of us oldbies created this board to get away from a very oppressive, conservative, and unfair board and its megalomaniac of a founder. As a result, the board prides itself with a sense of very deep personal freedom in both speech and attitude. You may see at times people engage in heated arguments, all too often riddled with insults, but rest assured this is just a part of tradition. We've spent so many years arguing with each other that its hard to break the habit, and often times these days very little to no reason is needed to start one. ;) Nobody really means anything by it, and I hope that won't be a problem for you. Just try not to take it seriously!

2) Many people who come here are turned off by the apparent lack of activity, both OOC (Out of Character) and IC (In Character), and are used to much faster paced boards. Rest assured that this by no means TRF is dead/dying! We have a very old and dedicated group of writers who you'll see around here no matter what happens, but many of us are older now than we were when they first started (in college and beyond, sometimes way beyond) and as a result we all have very busy real lives and sometimes its difficult for us to be as active as I'm sure we'd all like. But if you can stand the sometimes slow pace, its well worth the patience, as someone will always be around in time! :)

Other than that, the information for new people is a definite must-read! Also, feel free to ask me or anyone else you'd like any questions you may have. Most of us have some sort of contact information in our user profiles, whether it be e-mail or AIM or MSN. Once you feel confident enough to make the leap into writing (if you so wish!) feel free to either ask around for any interested parties or even strike out on your own! As a highly free-form writing board, the most important rule here is to use common sense with your writing and you should be fine! Little else is needed.

I hope you enjoy your stay and enjoy our little corner of the world wide web, now what are you waiting for?

Make your bid for the galaxy.

LOL! Absolutely neither. I've been doing Star Wars roleplaying for 9 years now. I'm good to go on that. I'm asking about specifics of this board. What kind of people are in each group and what sort of experience I should expect here.

And Omnae beat me to it, of course.

EDIT: As far as factions are concerned, trust me in that that is a very convoluted subject! The two major political players in the galaxy are the Galactic Coalition (for the Lightside), and The New Order (Empire, Darkside of course!), with the New Order being once again very powerful (although that may change soon!). The Commonwealth is a neutral government faction that is quickly making ground in catching up with the two, and we also have Force user representation in the form of the Sith Order (really combined with the Empire as one faction) and what remains of the Jedi Order (headed by yours truly!).

There are also quite a few others, from the Bounty Hunters Guild (headed by Beff Pike) to the ever-evil and ever-awesome Palestar Crusade. Feel free to ask around about a faction that interests you personally and I'm sure someone can provide you with a more detailed answer. :)

*subliminal message*

Join the Empire. Or the Sith. Either one.

Welcome to TRF. Zark pretty much summed it up. If you want a really good idea of where things stand, read Cataclysm in the Battlegrounds. It's long, but it's worth the read, and you'll get a pretty good idea of who's active and where exactly everyone stands.

Welcome to TRF.

If you're interested in reading some past works, check out the threads titled "showcase" in the News and Announcements forum. Now and again we are ousted to vote for our favorite recent stories.

All righty, then. I'll hopefully have a character worked out by Friday. (Tomorrow is my day off, and I'm gonna go tubing with a bunch of the other counselors! ^_^) In the mean time, if anyone wishes to shamelessly recruit, I completely support this. I find a lot of character of the group shows through on their methods of attempting to recruit, and I love quirky individuals.

As for why any of you should WANT to try and recruit me, allow me to extol some of my better virtues: My majors in college are Forensic Science and Music, with a minor in Creative Writing (poetry and fiction). This means I know enough about how people are put together to not godmode out of sheer ignorance... and I can make a song about it in Italian sonnet format. My spelling is usually fairly accurate, and I try to keep a variety of sentence structures in each post. Oh, and I'm one of those elusive girl things, so if you guys are behind on your female quota, or you're lacking in morbid sarcasm, I can definitely help out with that. (Just don't expect me to be nice. I pride myself on being a ball buster.)

Also, I like puppies. If you don't, I'll get you in your sleep.

Lol. Welcome to TRF. Interestingly, I think The Rebel Faction probably has the most sexed nerds on the planet.
