4. Do you believe more gov’t regulation of T.V. is needed? or regulation of video games? If so why?
I believe the gov has done all it really can while staying off the toes of the 'human rights' laws. The gov can only direct and warn the person of what they are about to view. It is on the viewer's head if they dont like what they decide to view. People who blame the gov for their own actions (eg, buying the game or continuing to watch the movie) are IMO irresponsible.
(Anime Shows) Full Metal Panic, .Hack, Dragonball Z
6. Do you think that the amounts of violence on T.V. has increased since you first started watching?
Yes
7. Do you own any video games?
Numerous games and numerous consoles
8. What are your 3 favorite titles?
Project Zero series, Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series, Dead or Alive series
9. On a scale of 1 to 10, how violent are those games?
Violent? Well if you rated The Grudge a lvl 6 then the Project Zero series would be about lvl 9, 8, 9 in the respective titles in the series, or course, if you rated The Grudge as a 9... There is gore but generally it relies on the creepiness and inhuman events and such (eg, sacrifices, blood rituals, evil Japanese ghosts, etc). Japanese horror always goes for the mental scare rather then the physical scare such as western horrors do. (note: The sacrifices and rituals used in the PZ series are based off of actual ones used in Japan's history 0o)
10. Do you think that the increase of violence in the media has had a detrimental effect on society? Why? (Please leave blank if you do not understand this question)
Well, it depends on which side you look at it from. On one side I could say yes because people have become disillusioned about numerous things that they once took for granted (eg, Police and corruption, Personal safety and rights, War and honor). Society has become more paronoid then it used to be. On the other hand however this can be seen as a good thing in that the public's eyes have been opened to the 'truth' of matters.
People say that the use of violence in the media 'numbs' the viewers and this is seen as the detrimental effect. What they fail to realise is that violence has always been around us, and in my opinion, is in fact more toned down today then it has been in the past. Remember what our ancestors were doing for entertainment? Dueling, Gladiators, Warmongering. We have becoming physically weaker then we were in the past and the fact that we think the toned down 'un-personal' violence on the screen is numbing us just proves that we have already been numbed not by violence but by peace. I don't think violence in the media is detrimental. I think its a wake up call.
*waves* Hi Bane, nice to see you. I didn't know you came around these parts.
1. How old are you?
- 23
2. Do you own a T.V.?
-Yes
3. If yes, then how often and for how long do you watch?
- On average, about an hour - two hours a day
4. Do you believe more gov’t regulation of T.V. is needed? or regulation of video games? If so why?
- I think rating systems and parental controls are an excellent idea. This way, children’s TV watching can be monitored while adults are free to watch what they care to.
5. What are your top 3 favorite shows?
- Rome (HBO) - Carnivale (HBO) - Attack of the Show (G4)
6. Do you think that the amounts of violence on T.V. has increased since you first started watching?
Yes, noticeably

9. On a scale of 1 to 10, how violent are those games?
-Each game involves a great deal of combat, but there isn’t any blood or gore. Therefore, I would rate the games around a 6 or 7.
10. Do you think that the increase of violence in the media has had a detrimental effect on society? Why? (Please leave blank if you do not understand this question)
This is a very difficult question to answer, because I’ve been exposed to studies that claim violent forms of media influence different societies in various ways. I feel that violent content CAN have an adverse affect on a populace, that is, when it is approached and explained in a juvenile fashion. Countries that promote the freedom of expression, therefore, have a responsibility to endow the citizens with the logical faculties to constructively evaluate all forms of media - It is more valuable to critically consider a situation, i feel, rather than turn a blind eye to it.
3. If yes, then how often and for how long do you watch?
an hour or two
4. Do you believe more gov’t regulation of T.V. is needed? or regulation of video games? If so why?
Not really. It is not the government's place to tell us what we can or can't watch or play. They are getting out of control. I mean, that Shrek fighting game, now, is E10+. Two years ago, the same game would be E. The people who have final say in what kids can and cannot do is up to their parent/guardians

10. Do you think that the increase of violence in the media has had a detrimental effect on society? Why? (Please leave blank if you do not understand this question)
Sure, but it's not like it hasn't been there in the past. Then again, maybe it's good. We need to know what is out there. People are just making more of a fuss about it now. People just need to realize that their children, whether or not they watch TV, will find how violent this world really is. Peolpe need to learn that violence is happening everywhere and stop criticizing the media for doing their job!

Do you think that the increase of violence in the media has had a detrimental effect on society? Why? (Please leave blank if you do not understand this question)No. People can understand what's real and what's fake. It's those few people not on meds who can't who have totally screwed it up for us. The real problem is Tv, turing us into a nation of fat itiots that... (goes on for like 3 days elaborating)
3. If yes, then how often and for how long do you watch?
I only use it for playing console games an movies, however when I am deployed I tend to watch a couple hours or so.
4. Do you believe more gov’t regulation of T.V. is needed? or regulation of video games? If so why?
No. What is needed is for parents to do their jobs and regulate what kids watch and which games they play. Once while in a game store a parent tried to get a Mature rated game for her 8 year old (the kid was present), the store refused to sell it to her. Kudos to the store employee.

None in particular, though I tend to watch mostly Animal Planet/Discovery Channel shows.
6. Do you think that the amounts of violence on T.V. has increased since you first started watching?
Yes.
7. Do you own any video games?
Oh yes.
8. What are your 3 favorite titles?
Meh…I don’t actually have a favorite.
9. On a scale of 1 to 10, how violent are those games?
The games I play vary from the most benign (puzzle games) to some of the most violent (Turok 2 comes to mind with it’s exploding body parts).
10. Do you think that the increase of violence in the media has had a detrimental effect on society? Why? (Please leave blank if you do not understand this question)
In a way yes. See my answer for #4. A lot of parents have stopped being ‘parents’ (intentionally or otherwise) and are letting games and TV ‘babysit’ their kids without mentoring them about the differences between fantasy and reality. Most kids turn out alright regardless...but there are always those few that need more mentoring then most and end up attempting to 'live' the game or whatever they are trying to mimic on TV, with distasterous results....
