Who here has read any of the books from Terry Brook's Shannara series? I just read Scions of Shannara thinking I was reading it for the first time but half way through I realized I'd already read it...
still, it's a good book and I'm just wondering if anyone else has read more of the series.. I've heard it's good all the way through ...

The Original 4 are great. But now TB is doing additional books set within the same world, not as good.

Never was a fan of TB. Something about the disease related to the Initials...
That's one spooky sig there, Ceel. It looks like something out of some cheesy Flash game.

I've intentionally gone retro. I like the old HTML look. Its how we did it on ezboard before everybody had a bootleg copy of Adobe.

Last week I was looking for a new series to read waiting for Turtledove to come out with new books in his Darkness Series, American Empire Series and Robert Jordan to continue his WOT series.
The choice was between Terry Brooks Shannara series or Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series.
I chose Sword of Truth and all I have left to read is his latest hardcover which is $30.00 friggin dollars. Unless I can find the hardcover for $5, I'll wait so Shannara is probably next.
I was wondering if they were any good.

I've got the first 3 books of Goodkind's in that series and I have to say the first book was excellent, I'll give him that, but the second dragged on. I finished it, but the third I never even picked up as I wasn't interested anymore in knowing what happens with the characters... which is unusual.
But Shannara is an excellent series. And if you really like good serials, David Eddings' Belgarath books is a marvelous one to read.

I think I read The Sword Of Shannara once, it was ok.

I'll check those series out. Typically if I start a series and a book (or two depending on how long the series is) is not up to par I will still finish the series to see if the author picks up his game.
David Wingrove's Chung Kuo series was pretty cool. I am trying to find book 8: Marriage of the Living Dark, but I might as well be looking for Jimmy Hoffa for all my efforts. This last book was reviled by some readers but I have that little itch to actually finish the series.
One of my all time favorites though is an old classic, Asimov's Foundation Series.

I believe the word "Corellia" came from the Foundation series?

Ohhh, the American Empire series is pretty sweet Simon.
