I thought maybe this should go under arts and entertainment, but it isn't really art and it's more about a source of entertainment in a more technical sense rather than a discussion sense.
KOTOR 2 is the abbreviation for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, and the reason why I'm bringing it up is that it appears there is finally an explination for why the ending sucked so much.
I remember distinctly Gash's fury, and I definetly recall my own disappointment, at the relatively nonsensical ending. It felt rushed, with key dialogue cut and resolutions removed. It was buggy. The game right up until the start of the third "endgame" act had been great, but the last few scenes just made little sense.
It appears the reason why is because they had been working on a much larger, much grander, much more awesome ending. In what was released, there is a scene where Kreia tells you the fate of the other characters by peering into the future - rather bland and uninteresting, wheras in the original ending each character would recieve a confrontation scene with full resolution. The bit where Mira fights Hanharr on Malachor V, which had always seemed a little out of left field, was part of this.
There was also apparently a much more clear explination from Kreia, and more confrontations before the end. The reason why all this was cut was because Lucasarts applied pressure to Obsidian studios to have it finished in time for the Christmas rush, when they were clearly several months short of a finished product. At first, this seems like hollow consolation, but it appears something interesting may be going on that could give players of KOTOR 2 a chance to see the full ending, maybe.
Obsidian released the scripts and the voicework in the computer version of the game, and some relevant files to a group of modders, who are apparently making the missing scenes to be patched in to KOTOR 2. I imagine it's not worth rushing out and buying KOTOR 2 for your computer, but it's certainly an interesting idea and apparently could do much to improve the massive fan disappointment with the game - a tragedy, considering how well the first game did, and how entertaining it was.
Anyways, I knew many people here were just as disappointed as I was when they finished KOTOR 2, so I'm just putting this out there.
