I bought this game today, haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I read the manual. If I read this correctly, it appears to be somewhat similar to Star Wars Rebellion or EaW, but differs in many ways.

Some of the things I'll point out is that you can customize your opponents, your own player, and the ships that you build, and the playing field can be potentially huge.

Smallest map potential is nine sectors, each sector containing 225 parsecs, each parsec containing 1 planet, for a total of 2,000 planets. Largest potential galaxy is 324 sectors, each sector containing 225 parsecs, each parsec containing 5 planets, for a total of 364,500 planets.

Of course, not all parsecs always contain a planet, or anything at all.

But to lay it out, this game is pimpin. Now to go actually and play it.

Do you use a zero sum DKP system for loot, or what?

I've got GalCiv2 and I like what I've seen of it; 'cept that I never seem to get enough anomalies and I'm still a little confused by invasion combat.

Well, I just played it for the first time, and I'm like wow, it's complicated as hell if you don't read the manual through, trust me on this. But so far it appears to be a pretty sweet game.

Something that may be a downside though is that you can't control your ships in combat. At first I thought it had a Homeworld esque style combat system, but apparently it's a D&D sytle system where attack points stack up against defense points, etc., etc.

The game roxxors. The only down side is that it's so very indepth that you kind of wish it's even more indepth as you play.

I've been using it for month to live out my Empire-crushing fantasies! :D

*chuckles* The main features of the game are easy enough, it's just invasion combat that has me scratching my head...

Though, I do so love making X-wings in the game. ^__^
