Ya me neither... but... I don't necessarily know that that's Palpatine... It's Sidious... and of course everyone's under the impression that Palpatine is Sidious. But I think they might be getting ready to throw us a curve ball with that whole thing, a few of the writers of Star Wars books have said that a lot of the things we take for granted about Episode III are completely wrong. So who knows.
Sidious is really the love child of Boba Fett and Jar Jar Binks, sent back from the future.

I thought everyone knew?

I always suspected the palpatine we see is a harmless clone/puppet put in the government, which would explain why Jedi as powerful as Yoda couldn't sense him when even in the same room.

When you look at the close up pictures of Sidious and Palpatine the only conclusion I can come to is they're not the same people. Since when does putting on a cloak and shooting force lightning out of your fingertips automatically make your face look like you got a bad dose of Botox.

And even if for some reason over-exposure to the Dark Side did totally tweak your face would your teeth start falling out and turning black? Then when you stop using the Force they'll go back to normal?

Lucas went overkill with the makeup. This is not a surprise.

However, I think that the intention is that in the TPM/AotC days Palpatine isn't actively using the Dark Side. He's hiding his powers, but that's a Force power, not neccessarily a Dark Side power. As his plans come to fruition and he reveals himself as Dark Lord of the Sith, he begins to fully use his Dark Side powers (i.e. that thing he does where he connects the minds of the entire Imperial Fleet). So his decay becomes increasingly rapid.

I don't think we'll see a "back and forth", I think we'll see it begin and go downhill from there.

Although: does anyone else think this Palpatine looks far more degraded than the ESD/RotJ era Palpatine? Or are we to assume that was in fact a clone?

Not Palpatinish at all.

Well let's assume that what you're saying is correct Demos.. that he starts off as the normal Palpatine and as he starts using the Force openly and makes it known that he's a Dark Lord of the Sith, his body starts to decay.

How can he go from the third likeness, to the first and second, in the course of a 2 hour movie that doesn't really span that long of a time?

And as far as the whole decay thing, in my opinion it would be going on the whole time, Palpatine is already fully emerged in the Dark Side.

And as far as him openly declaring that he's Dark Lord of the Sith I don't think that he ever actually does that. I think that the people that actually know that he's a Sith are very, very few.

Based on what a lot of the people involved in Episode III have been saying I'm tending to believe that Sidious and Palpatine might not even be the same people. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out though.

I do think he looks more "degraded" (I don't know how to say it correctly either, but that can't be right so I'll put it in quotes to make you look stupid instead of me) in Ep. 3 compared to the OT. Totally overdone.

Yes he does look more decayed than Emperor Palpatine in Episodes IV-VI but that is assuming that Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same person. I think we're all assuming they are right now but like I said from what I've been hearing there's been a lot of talk that a lot of things people have taken for granted about Episode III will not be true. This could be one of them.

We know that Emperor Palpatine and Senator Palpatine are the same person. We also know that the Senator was spending a lot of time with Anakin in AOTC and even then was planting seeds in his head. In ROTS it seems that even more time will be spent together and Palpatine will put even more ideas into Anakin's head and the affair between Amidala and Obi-Wan will push him over the edge.

I believe that Palpatine and Sidious are one in the same person. I mean... it's hard not to when all that Sidious does Palpatine benefits from. It makes it seem like he is using the powers and factions of the Galaxy as pieces on his own personal chessboard and is waiting to reveal his strategy until the game is already won. But what if Palpatine is merely opportunistic? What if the two are different and Palpatine kills Darth Sidious to become Dark Lord of the Sith? I doubt it and we won't truly know until the movie comes out, but it sure will be neat to find out. Either way when it all boils down to it Yoda is the man and will own everyone's face like Tyson when he fought Clifford Etienne!

For those that haven't seen clips of the fight, it went like this: Before the fight Clifford Etienne was all amped up ( :mad ) and then about 30 seconds into the first round when Tyson landed his second punch it rung Etienne's bell ( o_O ) knocking him on his ass. Ten seconds after that the match was over and he was still out ( :dead ).
