I know there is another thread buried deep in the board about book reviews but I didn't care to go past 3 pages to hunt for it. Since I'm doing these anyway occasionally for another RP, I thought I'd go ahead and post here, since there's no fear of cross posting.

Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher

For those of you who have noticed I haven't been online much lately, there is one man to blame.... Mr Harry Dresden.

Or, more to the point, Jim Butcher, considering he is the author of the Harry Dresden books. This past week I have been holed up in my house reading the following omnibuses:

Wizard for Hire - which contains Storm Front, Full Moon and Grave Peril

Wizard by Trade - which contains Summer Knight and Death Masks

Wizard at Large
- which contains Blood Rites and Dead Beat

As you can see, I had good reason to be scarce. I spent more than one night awake until my brain was mush engrossed in these books and it was well worth it. Much like a junkie, I am now jonesing for my next fix, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Butcher's newest Dresden book, Wizard Under Fire. If the book wasn't already paid for, I'd be hard pressed to not whimper at my honey until he made a bookstore run for me. Simply, Harry Dresden is just that good. Run, don't walk, to your nearest book store and pick up Storm Front to get you started on this series. If you've watched the television series, be warned the book is vastly different but you can see where some of the shows plots were taken from the books. But if you like the show, pick up the books. If you don't like the show, pick up the books. Literary Harry is an experience a fantasy fan should not miss.

White Night by Jim Butcher was a good one too. It's actually my favourite of the Dresden series right now.

I'm currently reading the Dark Tower series and just finished the first book of the series. I have to say I'm interested to keep on reading when I have nothing else to do, but it's not exactly as if I'm dying to keep reading on.

I read Storm Front and I loved it.

Circe: The Dark Tower series is amazing. The first book is the most boring, it only gets better. But I still like the first book.

Yeah I have been told that, hence the reason when I saw the seven books together at a used books store I grabbed them up. Stephen King is a good author and people call this his magnum opus, so I am confident it will get better as you and others suggest.

But I have to say, the entire premise is a cool idea. The Gunslinger/Roland reminds me of a trio of movies (Easily in my top ten favourite movies) by Sergio Leone which would be the Blondie/Man With No Name trilogy starring Clint Eastwood.

As I said in the last review thread, I loved Island in the Sea of Time by SM Stirling. It is a superb alternate history novel. It's sequels Against the Tide of Years and On the Oceans of Eternity, were also great.

I'm reading the transcripts of Louis Riel.

Louis Riel sounds interesting, since I looked him up. Looks to me his life has epic movie written all over it, but I saw no mention of any having been made.

There are older films... One of which I recall watching time and again at my grandparents when I was but a boy. It was done in technicolor and if I can discover the name of it...

He was a significant personality in Canadian history, leaving aside all judgments of character or action.

I never replied to that before, Gue, because I can't pick just one single book to say is the best one I've ever read... as noted in the amount of Dresden's I consumed in one week, I read alot...
